“I’m far from fearless. I’m afraid of everything. But maybe when you’re afraid of everything, it sort of seems like you’re scared of nothing.”
~ Natalie Portman
I started my morning today reading up on interviews and articles on Natalie Portman. She’s now officially my role model. Not that I want to be an actress, but her beautiful personality, her love for learning (A’s in Harvard!), and her charmed life keeps me dreaming and believing that anyone could become whoever they want to be.

When you’re eight or nine years old and you look at the TV set and men are landing on the moon—anything is possible. And that is something we need to not lose sight of—that the inspiration and permission to dream is immense.
—The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch
This is one of the very few non-fiction books I have read that has profoundly changed me.

You must once and for all give up being worried about successes and failures. Don’t let that concern you. It’s your duty to go on working steadily day by day, quite steadily, to be prepared for mistakes, which are inevitable, and for failures.

Cherry Blossoms in Hong Kong (Summer 2009). I sometimes regret for not taking time to pause for a little longer, to literally smell all the beautiful flowers I see around me. And to take more pictures of them!

The GUIDON celebrates 80 years of campus journalism this year. It’s such a wonderful, indescribable, breathtaking feeling to be a part of this publication and witness Ateneo and Philippine history in the making. This is campus journalism at its best. Let me leave the elaborate details for later.
After the lighthearted, intimate gathering at the Top Shelf in Fully Booked, I rushed to the first floor to look around for a while (meaning: 45 minutes) and chose two books:
Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult and The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory.
I know I should stop impulsively buying books, and resist the enticing lure of bookstores. Even so, gazing at mere titles, blurbs, and book covers is stifling; stories and secrets within intricately woven words printed on hundreds of pages are overly mysterious for them to be left sitting on shelves, unloved and untouched. Someone is meant to understand and appreciate the masterful artistry of writers. Perhaps one of them is me.

Sadly, I haven’t read any of Jane Austen’s phenomenal novels yet. My copy of Pride and Prejudice is patiently waits for me on my bookshelf.

Happiness in this world, when it comes, comes incidentally. Make it the object of pursuit, and it leads us a wild-goose chase, and is never attained. Follow some other object, and very possibly we may find that we have caught happiness without dreaming of it.

Time ceases to exist when she engages in this moment, because she wants nothing more than the beauty this moment has to offer.
